App swap

The red and white quilt show was without a doubt the most incredible show I have ever been to. And talk about high tech, Joanna’s nephew made an iPad app that shows each of the quilts up close and personal. If you were not there I highly recommend the app. It is not like being there but a close second.
Sorry my picture was vertical but you do have to turn your head in all directions to see these quilts, so you might as well do it on my blog also.
Joanna Rose and her family are donating the iPads used in the show to local schools. Again, amazing. I feel like I am on the bachelor and the only adverb/verb/adjective I can say to describe the event is AMAZING!
We all started talking about what app do you have and why? My iPad is a fairly new toy and I am just really learning about it. I don’t leave home without it.
So I am putting out an app swap. ( you know like a block swap, but you don’t have to make anything) if you want to join along, post a comment with your favorite app and why. I will put all of them into one post.

Leaving you with a video from YouTube about the show.

  1. I have several apps on my IPad. I like Block Tool the best so far. You can pick a block pattern and it tells you what size and type pieces you need for 5 different finished block sizes.
    I also use:
    QuiltFab
    BlockFab-HD
    QuiltRef
QuiltCalc (this one is by Robert Kaufman)
    Quilting

I would love to see other apps that qulters use that are good.

    Hi Lissa:
My favorite app for my IPhone (don't have an IPad…yet)is Business Card Reader. You just take a picture of a business card and it scans it into your contacts. Puts everything in the proper spots like magic!

We are currently moving into a wonderful bigger new store and I have been wearing my Moda Certified apron everyday. Love the many pockets. Thanks Moda for filling my new space and protecting my clothes!

I have the quilt apps mentioned already and Flipbook is cool, too, but I love my Kindle app…got about 40 novels on it already. Love the weather channel app, the Real Simple recipe app and the Netflicks app. As far as games, I love Rummikub, Words With Friends, Spite and Malice, and Angry birds!

I love the free quilt block tool app. You can look up a lot of blocks and easily see how to make them in different sizes. They have short cuts for easily making the blocks. I often use it when I am drafting patterns to figure out how to cut segments for quick piecing.

I would be lost without Dropbox on my iPad and my Android phone. I store pdf quilt patterns on there, and I can pull them up to study/check yardages/etc pretty much anywhere. (Dropbox is an online storage tool that you can use to sync files with multiple computers and pretty much any tablet/smartphone: http://db.tt/283VALK)

And a second to QuiltCalc on both iPad/Android, and of course Angry Birds

Something I just learned was to use one of those pendants that you can cut thread with upside down in a spool of thread to cut apart pieces that have been chained together.
