Blogger Girls Month 6 BOM

It is that time again for the Blogger Girls’ Block of the Month. The final month of free block patterns includes month 6 blocks.
Next month we will be showing the final quilt and the layout directions.

Amazing how different these two blocks are using the same pattern. Can you spot the difference in how the templates were used?
Clue: top corner
Once you spot the difference you will also spot my mistake! I didn’t even notice it until just now! I guess it happens to all of us.

Some of the other blocks.

Be sure and stop by all the blogs for the Block of the Month.

Wishes B.O.M.

It is the first of the month so it is time to catch up on my block of
the months. on April 1st,  I shared block 4 from the blogger girls BOM
and today is my show n tell for the Wishes quilt along from Fat Quarter Shop.

I am on month 4 of the quilt along. These blocks are so fun because they are 18″ finished. They get big very fast compared to the blogger girls BOM that are 6″ finished.

Time to change my machine needle. See how the seams kind of pucker? Yep, should have put in a new needle. Do you not change your needle until it breaks? Guilty. I have read that you should change your needle every time you start a new project. I tend to work on several projects at once and time slips away.
So now that I have my monthly block obligations caught up, I am putting a new needle in my machine, giving it a fresh oiling and then on to making market quilts. Can’t wait to to show you a few peeks along the way.

Blogger Girls BOM month 2

Today is the day for the second installment of blogger girls block of the month brought to you
Blues and whites certainly seem to be the colors of the year. They colors are everywhere including the cover of the pottery barn catalog.
Indigo, indigo indigo.
So I have chosen an upcoming
collection from Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts for my blocks.
The line is called Snowbird.
TIP: There are only 2 sizes of triangles used for these blocks. One size is cut on the half diagonally. The other is cut diagonally in half twice. This makes the triangles be cut on the bias going the right direction to avoid stretching, but it also makes them almost the same size. So be careful when sewing them together. It is easy to get them mixed up. Ask me how I know. Yes, I had to redo my blocks.
Here is a link to patterns and the other quilter’s Girls BOM blog posts,
so you can see all the possibilities.
Sorry my post is late.
Thanks to Verizon for fixing my wifi,
Enjoy,
Modalissa

Blogger Girls B.O.M year 2

Did you make any New Year’s Resolutions?
I don’t know if you can consider mine resolutions but I have
agreed to several projects throughout 2014 which are commitments. Commitments, now that is
a word that is just as powerful as resolutions, right?
You may remember last year when Monique Dillard of Open Gate Quilts
hosted a Blogger Girls Block of the Month.
a finished quilt from last year
Well, today is January 1st so it is time once again  to start the year off
 with a bang
and another quilt along.
my first block from year 1
This year the blocks are a dreamy 6 inches.
For the next 6 months you will be making 2 of each of the 6 designs.
Your 2 blocks will look completely different due to color and fabric placement.
I have fallen in love with the newest group from Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts.
It is called Snowbird. Yes, there are print and batiks.

These fabrics will not be in the stores until later this year so you are
getting a sneak peek at them here.

At 6″ these blocks are so darn cute.

Join us on the first of each month for more cuteness and 6″ blocks.

I hope each of you have a blessed and safe 2014.

Blogger Girls Quilt Along 3

Can you believe it is already March?
I love the technique and rulers used on this block so I was inspired to
do something a little different. Be sure and check out off the bloggers
posts for color options and then Monique’s blog for block instructions.
This could very well be my favorite block so far.
Monique offers 2 color
versions in her instructions, so the more
 I looked at the block,
 the
more intrigued I was.
Shown above is he color placement per the block instructions.
I just changed one simple triangle and it gave me a whole new block.
Can you see which triangle I changed?
I wondered what would happen if I made a quilt from just this block.
How
much movement would it have?
Would it create secondary designs?
So I played with the exact fabrics but
changing the
fabric placement slightly
to have two versions of the same block, shown
above.
Then,

I thought what about putting the blocks on point.
Everything is always better on point. I used just one block and
look how cool and graphic it turned out. Love it!!

Blogger Girls Quilt Along 2

Happy Friday to everyone!
Today is month 2 of Monique’s Blogger Girls Quilt Along.

Here is my stack of fabrics that I am auditioning
each month for my blocks. Monique has done such a great job
with her block instructions that it is very easy
to choose different fabrics for color placement
making the blocks look completely different
depending on fabric placement.

I also wanted to show you the back of one of my blocks in progress. I consider myself fairly good at piecing since I have been practicing for 30 years. However using Monique’s rulers have  taken  precision sewing to a whole new level.

Stop by and see the color options at the other blogger girls.

Bloggers girls quilt along

Happy New Year!
I am happy to be starting the new year with a few friends.
Time to start on a 6 month BOM.
Are you ready?
On the first of each month,
we will be posting our “color options” as we participate with
 Monique from
Open Gate Quilt’s  on her first quilt along.

 Block 1- color version 1
 Block 1- color version 2
Look how different two of the same blocks can be just by fabric and color placement.
The fun thing about this project is that it is all about color options
as well as fantastic precision piecing with the use of Monique’s rulers.
It is 2013  so first thing you should do is
go out and treat yourself
to the
FIT TO BE QUARTER 6.5 & companion ruler.
It changed my life and I am not being over dramatic.
Accuracy and precision are a breeze with this. I always thought
I was a pretty good “piecer”,
but now I am a fantastic piecer!
My signature piece of fabric is a piece from Edyta Sitar’s Paint Box Collection.
Stock # 42101-13 color Coco.
I will be using this as my
border and will also sprinkle it throughout some of my quilt blocks.
I seriously love this print!
This is a fabric that has so many wonderful colors that I could use it for almost any
project. The possibilities of beautiful colors to coordinate are endless.
Edyta has a way of doing this with each of her collections.
I keep a swatch of this fabric pinned to my design wall so I can audition
fabrics as I make each of the blocks.

Instructions for each block with be posted at Open Gate.
