What is your favorite color? Mine is red so when I was asked to participate in a collaborative project from Martingale Publishing, I jumped at the chance.
In 2011, I was able to attend the Infinite Variety: Three Centuries of Red and White Quilts exhibit in New York City. If you are a quilter, you would understand when I say this was a religious experience. 650 red and white quilts from the collection of Joanna S. Rose were exhibited in Park Avenue’s 55,000 sq. ft. Armory’s Wade Thompson Drill Hall. Mrs. Rose celebrated her 80th birthday by creating this exhibit and sharing it with all of us.
Walking up the steps to the Armory everyone was a-buzz with excitement, but as soon as the doors opened, there was silence. Everyone’s breath was taken away with the greatness of the exhibit and the venue. Quilter’s from all over the world attended the exhibit along with historians, educators, children, and artists. To read more about this exhibit, visit Park Avenue Armory.

I left there hoping to make 1 red and white quilt a year. I have made 3 since 2011 so that was another reason I wanted to participate in this book. Now I have 4 red and white quilts along with patterns for several more.

How is that for a virtual quilt show?
Does it make you want to make a red and white quilt?
Or Maybe even just drool over the pages?
Well, guess what, I have some advance copies of Red & White Quilts, 14 Quilts with Timeless Appeal from Today’s Top Designers, and I want to give away a few.
Leave a comment telling me your favorite quilt show you have ever been to. If you haven’t been to a show, let me know which one you want to go to.
DISCLAMIER: I will be attending Quilt Market and Festival so I won’t be able to do the drawing and announce the winner until Saturday, November 10th.
Next week there will be an additional chance to win, follow my Instagram page, https://www.instagram.com/modalissa/for details.
Books will be available in stores mid November, but if you are attending Quilt Festival, Primitive Gatherings will have some for sale.
I was fortunate to be living in NYC at the time of the Infinite Variety show and was awe struck by the red and white quilts. Loved it and would love to win the book..
It was the challenge quilts at the Naples Florida quilt show a couple years ago that drew me in. As I recall, the challenge was to create a small wall hanging based on the Edison and Ford winter estates in Ft. Myers. The quilts were striking and I could have studied them for hours. Of course, the entire annual quilt show in Naples is marvelous, but this was a standout exhibit.
My favorite quilt show has been the International Quilt Festival held in Houston. I have been three times and each time is more awesome and inspiring than the previous!
My favorite quilt show, attended many years ago, was at Lancaster, PA. I would really like to go to the one in Paducah!
It was a long way from home, but one year I got to attend the Sisters’ Outdoor Quilt Show in Sisters, OR. The weather was perfect that day and we spent the entire day admiring the quilts, exhibits, and the town. It was fantastic!
I had the opportunity to attend the quilt show in Houston several years ago. I was in quilt heaven. just spectacular. I would love to go again!

I have only been to small local quilt shows, but would love to go to the outdoor Sisters show…. I love red and white quilts! I have been working on a redwork quilt for a while and am happy to say it is in the final stages to becoming a flimsy…. Thanks for previewing this book for us…. I love it!! And the drawing is the day before my birthday, so I have my fingers crossed!! Good luck to everyone who enters!
Thanks!!
My favorite quilt show has been the Outdoors show in Sisters, Oregon. There were so many beautiful quilts, but it was also such a fun atmosphere. Someday I hope to go to the shows in Paducah and Houston.
Hello Mary,
Hope you make it to Paducah or Houston one day. I hope to make it to Sisters one day. It is on my bucket list.
You are one of the winners of a red and white book. Please email or DM your mailing address.

Such gorgeous quilts! My favorite show to ever have been to was the show in Houston, which I attended a few years ago, but I enjoy the bug show in Lancaster, PA as well and it’s much closer to me, only about 2.5 hours. But I’m pretty happy at any show!
My favorite quilt show was the Houston Quilt Festival in 2016. It was my first time attending and I was blown away!!! I will be going again this year! My favorite quilts are red/white and I just finished a quilt using Sweetwater Project Red. Red just makes me happy!!
The outdoor quilt show in Sisters, OR. It was fantastic and I would go again in a heartbeat. They had everything there!
I think my favorite was Quilt Festival in 2013, my one and only time I’ve been there. I’ve been to Paducah, Road, PIQF, and Sisters which were all wonderful but if you gave me a free ticket/trip right now I’d choose Houston.
I have been to many guild quilt shows. I go because there is so much to learn just by looking at quilts made by others. But my favorite was the Sisters’ Outsoor Quilt Show many years ago. I had never been to an outdoor quilt show and it was so different from the others. Would love to attend Houston Quilt Festival someday!
I’ve been to the quilt shows at the International Quilt Market but I think my favorite was our Utah Ruby Celebration several years ago. I too really love the red quilts. Thanks.
I was lucky enough to see the Infinite Variety show in NYC in 2011. What an inspiring show!! Hard to top that experience.
My favorite quilt show is my guild’s biannual show in Lawton, MI. I am always blown away by the talent in our 80 member group!
I like our local quilt shows (not the huge professional ones). The only professional quilt shows I’ve been to are the AQS in Chicago.
Quilt festival of course! Lucky me lives within driving distance to go every year since I began quilting. I might have to look you up while I’m there. Lovely book!
Two color quilts are so striking! The book looks wonderful and I have to say that Lisa Bongean’s quilt is over the top awesome!
I can’t wait to see this book in person! Every quilt you showed is magnificent! I would love to attend the “pour amour du fil” quilt show in nantes, france. That is my dream go to quilt show!
My favorite quilt show that I attended was the first International Quilt Show in Chicago. I remember hearing that over 20,000 people were there! I still dream of going to Houston one day and also Sisters Quilt show with my two quilting sisters! Thank you for this opportunity to win.
I’ve been to the Hershey Quilt Show twice. The 1st time it was a mixture of styles, pieced, appliqué, thread & fabric painting, different sizes, length of time in making, etc. The 2nd time was a little disappointing as it was the same technique over & over again. I’ve also enjoyed a local quilt quild’s show as it has shown different techniques & a variety of skills.
I enjoy 2 color quilts & hope to make either a red/white or blue/white one.
Although I saw a striking green/purple batik quilt. Decisions, decisions.
I worked the quilt show at Rockome Gardens in Arcola, IL for several years and have been to Paducah. Would love to go to Chicago.
I have only been to the Pacific Int’l Quilt Fest in Santa Clara, CA, but I will one day get to Houston for THE show. I’ve been going to PIQF for over 16 years, an, it never fails, there is always one quilt that makes me tear up a bit. The work that these quilters put into their art is awe-inspiring. Even my husband, Mr. “I only like the Amish quilts” enjoys exploring all of the art on display at PIQF while I’m taking classes.
I have visited local quilt quilds shows. Sisters outdoor show is something I would be interested in.
I have always wanted to go to the quilt show in Houston but have never had the opportunity! Love red and white!
I went to Paducah several years ago and I really loved it. I have to say that was my favorite, so far!!
Last spring I was able to go to the AQS Quilt Week in Paducah. I was blown away by all the wonderful quilts I saw and hope I will be able to go again sometime.
I have never been to a quilt show but would love to attend one.
I would love to go to an AQS Quilt show at some time.
I love Red and White Quilts, I’ve made a few. They go with almost every Season. Valentine’s, 4th of July and Christmas! Red and White Quilts give a room a POP of color.
Thanks for sharing. It was fun to follow everyone at Quilt Market!
