Another QAL Is Coming-Celebrating 250 Years of America Quilt Along

Celebrate with Quilts Meets Fig Tree’s Rosie’s (and Yes… you can join in!)

If you’ve been craving a quilt project that feels classic, meaningful, and just plain fun to sew, Fat Quarter Shop has a good one lined up. An upcoming Quilt-Along will feature Celebrate with Quilts by myself & Susan Ache, stitched in Rosie’s by Fig Tree & Co. for Moda Fabrics—and the quilt being remade is Peppermint Twist, a sampler-style beauty with a variety of block sizes. (In other words: you won’t get bored. Not even a little.) Ask for this book at your favorite quilt or specialty quilt retailer.

What we know so far (dates + the vibe)

Fat Quarter Shop has shared that their Celebrate with Quilts-featured Quilt-Along is scheduled for February 2026 through December 2026, Mark your calendars! The featured fabric is Rosie’s by Fig Tree & Co. with a background option of Eyelet Ivory (20488-11). I am making mine using Rosie’s and mixing up the backgrounds with a variety of prints and adding some taupes for something different.

And here’s the timing sweet spot: Rosie’s is expected to ship January 2026, which means it’s perfectly lined up for a February start. (Nothing like a fresh box of fabric to make you suddenly believe you have unlimited free time.)

Why Rosie’s is such a dreamy match for Peppermint Twist

Fig Tree describes Rosie’s as an Americana-leaning collection with denim blues and soft pinks—a fresh, vintage-meets-modern palette that still feels timeless. The original color way in the book featured lots of assorted Fig Tree Fabrics soothes new line is a perfect fit. This QAL is named Celebrating 250 Years of America Quilt Along which is perfect way to celebrate America.

That combination is chef’s kiss for a quilt like Peppermint Twist—especially when you’re working with multiple block sizes and want strong contrast, sparkle, and that “each block has its own moment” sampler energy.

Why you’ll want the Celebrate with Quilts book on your shelf (and in your sewing room… and maybe in your travel bag)

This isn’t a “make it once and forget it” kind of book.  Celebrate with Quilts includes:

  • 12 quilts (not just one hero project)

  • 60 sampler blocks

  • Four block sizes ranging from 3″ to 12″

That block-size variety is exactly why a quilt like Peppermint Twist is so satisfying: it’s structured, but it still feels playful and creative—like a sampler with a party invitation attached.

And because the book is built around celebrations (holidays, milestones, life moments big and small), you’ll keep coming back to it when you need:

  • a baby quilt idea,

  • a “quick but special” gift,

  • a memory quilt for a family event,

  • or just a reason to sew something cheerful when the world feels noisy.

Reasons to join this QAL (even if you already have a few irons in the fire)

1) Built-in momentum

Quilt-alongs keep you moving—no lingering UFOs giving you side-eye from the closet. I have a few started for the year so thought I would do a blog for each to keep me on track and a teaser here of some of the blocks.

2) Community + encouragement

Fat Quarter Shop QALs are known for clear steps, steady pacing, and lots of “you can do this” energy across social and video. (You’re never quilting alone unless you want to.)

3) A stash-friendly format

Sampler quilts are sneaky that way: you can follow the official fabric plan with Rosie’s, or you can mix in favorites from your stash while still keeping a cohesive look.

4) You’ll learn (or sharpen) real skills

Multiple block sizes = more piecing variety, more chances to level up accuracy, pressing, and consistency—without it feeling like homework.

Quick “get ready” checklist

Based on what Fat Quarter Shop has shared so far, here’s a simple prep list:

  • Celebrate with Quilts book (you’ll need it for the QAL)

  • Rosie’s by Fig Tree & Co. for Moda Fabrics (expected January 2026 ship timing—perfect for a February start)

  • Background fabric: Your choice or Eyelet Ivory (20488-11) is the one FQS is referencing.

  • A place to share progress (photos are basically part of the quilting tradition at this point)

More updates as we get closer….

Final nudge (the friendly kind)

If you love quilts that feel nostalgic but still fresh… if you like blocks with personality… if you want a project that carries you through most of 2026 with a clear plan and celebrating America—this one is worth putting on the calendar. Both Susan Ache and myself will be sewing along!

Peppermint Twist + Rosie’s + a sampler-style mix of block sizes is the kind of combo that becomes a keepsake and a story. And that’s the good stuff—quilting the way it’s always been: meaningful, useful, and made with heart (and maybe a little seam-ripper humility).

Can’t wait to see your progress!

Piece and Quilt- month 3

We are back again with month 3 of the Piece and and Quilt Sampler project.

There are 3 different blocks this month and there is quite a bit of sewing. Don’t worry, take your time. Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings once gave me this advice and I am going to share it with you here.

– When you are working on a BOM, no matter what you do, go ahead and cut it out. This way when you have a few minutes you can sit down and sew a few pieces together. This uses different brain power than the concentration needed to cut. It really does work!

Shoreline by Camille Roskelley. Aren’t these fabrics yummy?!

I rarely use the same print in one block but the blue dotted fabric and the white dotted background almost make this a dainty delicate block.

To create this sampler with different sized blocks, I had to combine some of the blocks into larger ones creating a completely new block. I love how this one turned out. I love the look of using plaids. The navy here is a printed fabric so it was easy to use and still achieve the geometric look and feel.

My all time favorite block is the sawtooth star. It can be colored in so many different ways. This one with scrappy points adds a whimsical look and sparkles throughout the quilt.

I cannot get enough of this fabric. I am making this sampler and also my  Moda blockheads5 quilt using the whites, light blues and greens.

Be sure and visit the following people as they sew along also.

Enjoy and be sure and PIECE and Celebrate everyday.

Blockheads Update

New Year, New Projects or in this case a continuation of last year’s Blockheads 5. Each blockheads series I struggle with what my setting is going to be. While I think I am one of those go with the flow kind of gals, I know I suffer from paralysis from analysis.  Knowing what the layout is, does influence the fabrics you are using in your blocks or at least the color placement.

Do you struggle from this also?

This is the newest block to start 2024 off with a bang. The block is from Sherri McConnell of A Quilting Life.

This block is also by Sherri Mc Connell (round 1).  I made the 6″ block inside of the 12″ block. Squint at it. I see a secondary design and think once it is quilted, it will show the design more.

All of the block blocks can be found here on Moda Fabrics website/blog.

I have made some of the blocks as 12″ versions but now that I know what my setting is going to be I am making all 6″ blocks.

I started my project with Nantucket fabrics by Camille Roskelley, mixed in some greens and lights from her current line Lighthearted and will be adding Shoreline which will be in stores later this spring.

We have a weekly Facebook group for Blockheads. If you have not joined the group, please do.

I decided to  use the  BLUEPRINT quilt by Susan Ache as inspiration for my setting. I am using 6″ blockheads blocks and larger filler blocks from the Celebrate with Quilts book. I did a quick video showing the book and the status of my progress on Blockheads.

So far the quilt has a soft and vintage feel.  I can’t wait to finish it.

Celebrate with Quilts

In the heart of every quilt, there lies a story. It whispers of patience, creativity, and love stitched meticulously into every seam. Susan Ache and I celebrate our new book, Celebrate with Quilts for this very reason. We both make quilts to captures the essence of celebrations and wanted to share a resource to be able to make a quilt exactly as featured in the book but also a design book to create your own variation.

Quilts hold a special place in the realm of gift-giving. They are more than just pieces of fabric sewn together; they are tokens of love, patience, and dedication. Imagine gifting a quilt to a newlywed couple, symbolizing the warmth and comfort of their new journey together. Picture a quilt presented to a graduate, embodying the support and pride of their achievements. Quilts are not just gifts; they are cherished memories woven into fabric, making them the perfect present for any celebration.

“Celebrate with Quilts” unveils a collection of 60 unique blocks, each thoughtfully designed and presented in four different sizes, providing endless possibilities for creativity. From vibrant birthday parties to cozy holiday gatherings, this book is a tribute to the art of celebration, offering quilting patterns that perfectly capture the spirit of various occasions. Shown above is our Blueprint quilt. It is a simple go to quilt that can be made over and over showcasing your favorite fabric line with the larger squares sprinkled with patchwork.

Mi Amour quilt will be part of our quilt along happening early December on Moda Fabrics blog.

There will also be a QAL March 2024 featuring Camille Roskelley’s upcoming fabric collection, so stay tuned for more info.

I am in love with this quilt that Susan made and may have to plan a QAL for this one also or some how try to add this one to my to-do list. See what I mean by making quilts to celebrate with? Decorating for Holidays or special events is one of the best reasons to make a new quilt and there is oodles of quilt inspiration for you in this book.

Whether you are an experienced quilter or a novice, this book is a gateway to a world of creativity, color, and joy.

So,  pick up your needles, choose our fabrics, and start stitching our own stories of celebration. After all, in the world of quilting, every stitch is a small celebration in itself—a celebration of creativity, passion, and the enduring tradition of quilting.
