BlockHeads- Magic Block and triangle papers giveaway

BLOCKHEAD WEDNESDAY

Today is a day of Magic. If you have even seen any of Lisa Bongean’s work then you will understand. Lisa creates magic with everything she touches.
She makes it all look so easy.
But the best thing about the process is that Lisa is a fantastic teacher sharing her tips on accurate piecing no matter how big or small.

My block is 8″ and I am happy with how it turned out but Lisa’s is 4″. You can see her block and get the pattern here.

Visit each of the designers listed below for their take on the MAGIC  block:

I have never used triangle papers before. I NEED them because these half-square triangles are so dang tiny! This is such a great challenge! By the way,, I love your block!

  2. Jenn Caunt says:

I have never tried triangle papers, but would love to try them!
I have used the method were you draw out a rectangle and a bunch of lines to sew on to end up with a lot of hst’s but ugh what a bother! This just seems sooo much easier!

  3. Christine says:

I have been quilting for a little over a year, and I still struggle with half square triangles a bit! I have been considering trying the paper, but don’t want to make the investment until I know I will use it and it will help me get better! I rarely keep any of the quilts I make, so I always worry when things are a bit wonky. I hope this improves with more practice, but if triangle paper is what I need……

  4. Ana Sweet says:

I just cannot get a bias 1/4 inch seam accurate and using hst papers saves me from trimming all those oversized blocks I would have to make.

  5. Wow, these triangle papers look like they would be SO helpful for making perfect little triangles. I do like to make small blocks, 3 or 4 inch, and always have trouble getting accurate HSTs…lots of seam ripping involved. The papers would be a life saver.. Thanks for the chance to win them.

  6. Becki Rose says:

I have never used the triangle papers but just ordered a roll of 1” to give them a try. I usually use the Clearly Perfect trimmer rulers and they come out pretty good, but the 1” finished size motivated me to give the paper a try.

  7. Thea says:

I would love to try triangle papers. I find, especially with small block with HSTs, I often find that I cut off my points and I hear using triangle papers avoid this problem. Would like to see if this is in fact the case. Thank you Blockhead designers for the amazing work you do, and the time you put into helping us

  8. Jill Pierman says:

Thank you for your beautiful block. I have never used triangle paper in quilting, but this blockhead challenge has me doing things I have never done before and I am loving it. I have only been quilting for a little over a year and this has been pure joy for me (along with a little terror) attempting new things each week. Loving all the blocks, fabrics, designs and tips I am learning from designers and quilters. Much appreciated!

  9. Mary Oddan says:

Quilt shops closing make thread a 40 mile trip, quilt specialties even further! Usually try to make do without. Variety packs look useful.

  10. Kim carlson says:

Can’t wait to do the new block……. but I will have to since I can’t find the tiny triangle paper or the starch! Ack ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ But excited to get going

  11. Cindy Kokinda says:

I’m an old dog learning new tricks…..lol. I learned to hand piece many, many years ago from a wonderful instructor. But working full time and raising my family didn’t leave much time for quilting. Now that I am retired, I am trying to hone my skills at machine piecing to make up for lost time. I’ve never tried triangle papers before and I could only imagine how time-saving and accurate they are.

  12. Teresa says:

I would love to try using triangle paper, I’m an avid quilter and have never tried this product. I am enjoying this quilt along so much, and am learning so much.

  13. Laura says:

Had not heard of triangle papers until I watched the videos of them last night. Would really like to try them. Love the look of the results!!

  14. Lori Korell says:

I usually do ok with larger hst but the paper would be helpful with these small ones ! I am a accuracy nut so these would be very nice . Thank you for offering a giveaway !

  15. Karen Doubleday says:

I have used triangle papers and love them! Triangle papers speed up
A project, especially one with lots of HST’s, and are accurate.

  16. Margaret says:

I like making quilts that have triangles in them and sometimes I struggle with precision (particularly with small triangles, which I LOVE). I have tried making 8 at a time, and I like that method, but I’m interested in Lisa’s triangle paper. With her reputation for tiny blocks, and the rave reviews from bloggers, I think her triangle papers must be great.

  17. Clara Chandler says:

I have used Triangle papers and I feel that they are necessary to ensure accurate “tiny” HST like those featured in Lisa’s block. Thanks for a chance in the giveaway.

  18. vickie mone says:

Hi – I have never used the papers before. I would love to try them since most of the quilts I make use triangles of some form. Thank you.

  19. Lynn Lahr says:

Love triangle papers. When I went to gather my fabrics for this block I discovered I did not have the right sized triangle papers, so that is why I need these. They are handy and make the triangle squares come out perfect every time. Love seeing the tape measures. Thanks for the opportunity.

  20. Julie Kennedy says:

I would love to try this type of triangle paper, especially in 3/4″ finished size for my 6″ version of Lisa’s block.

  21. Nancy N Roy says:

First off…I love your name Modalissa and my daughters are taking me to Paris for my birthday so I wil check out the original! I am fascinated by half square triangles and feel your papers will help me with prescision blocks. Thank you in advance even I don’t receive your gift. The thought is appreciated. Nancy

  22. Lynda K Hermann says:

my only method of HST’s is cutting oversized and trimming with my bloc-loc – sometimes that trimming gets so tedious – have looked at papers but not used.

  23. Linda Flynn says:

The use of these papers makes it so much to get a good block. It saves a ton of time in cutting too – big squares are easier to cut than a gazillion oversized squares

  24. Ann Schlapkohl says:

Triangle papers certainly make it easier when making many HSTs. Even though it seems like you might be making more than you need it’s nice to have leftovers for future projects. I have used some of mine in pincushions that I started making from the leftovers/scraps from each of my quilts. My bowl full of pincushions is overflowing but it’s so much fun to be reminded of each of the quilts I’ve worked on!

  25. Karen N. says:

I love to use triangle papers too!! I would love to try the 1/2″ and the the 3/4″ sizes….so tiny!! Great idea for a variety pack to try different sizes!! Love your block and seeing your tape measure collection!! =:)

  26. EllenB says:

I use triangle papers for anything smaller than 2″ finished. Love the accuracy and prefer the sheets over strips when I have to make a bunch at one time.

  27. Elizabeth Dewett says:

I do a lot of small piece sewing for my 365 blocks and these small triangle papers would come in handy so I don’t get a wonky size.

  28. Michelle Bennett says:

I’ve never used triangle papers before but would love the opportunity! Thank you for giving us the chance to try!

  29. DEB WORTHMAN says:

I make a lot of half square triangles and then trim them, so they turn out perfect. These would make it easy, since I’ve heard they are the perfect size.

  30. Lorna D says:

I have used the Moda Cake Mix recipe papers and found that to be a n easy way to make HSTs. I would love to be able to try Triangle papers too!

  31. Regina says:

I need this assortment of triangle papers because the smaller my triangle units become the more “wonky” they become 🙁 Thanks for hosting the giveaway.

  32. Jill McCaughey says:

I think that the smaller the triangles, the more “opportunity” there is for messing up, so a mixed set of triangle papers would be a welcome addition to my toolbox of tricks. Love your blog, and Lisa’s, of course. Thanks, Jill in Calgary/Phoenix

  33. Pam Robbins says:

I need these triangle papers because, I am new to quilting…I am new to Moda Blockheads and while I am having a blast, I need all the help I can get! lol

  34. Stephanie Herweyer says:

I’m relatively new to quilting and am trying to learn all the techniques and time savers as possible. I’m familiar with piecing, I’ve taken a course on applique, completed log cabin blocks using paper foundation piecing, and am interested to learn how to make half square triangles using the triangle paper sheets. I’m participating in the Block Head 3 challenge, and I think this “tool” could help make that project a little easier to complete.
