French General Irish Chain

Pom Pom De Paris by French General

We have had a bit of sunshine for the first time in weeks. The deluge of
rain seems to have stopped so I thought it a perfect time to pull out
another quilt and document the specifics. I thought this Irish Chain
would be good to talk about since next week I will be taking part in
Melissa Corry’s Irish Chain blog hop.
This old quilt is just the opposite of what I will be showing next week, but
more on that Monday.

When I say old, spring 2011 was when this fabric was available in stores. Seems like eons ago.
I love the look of  Blended Quilts that Marsha McCloskey and Sharon Yenter are known for. This fabric collection seemed like a perfect fit.

So many of the prints were large scale and disappeared or blended into each other when cut smaller for the irish chain pieces. I guess that is the point of blended quilts, right?

I love the muted butter yellow prints in this collection. The quilt has been washed a few times adding to it’s well loved look.

  I
did not let one scrap go to waste by adding the large prints, butter
yellows and woven textures along with any orphan blocks or pieces from
the quilt top to create a 2 sided quilt.

A feathered wreath design was quilted in natural thread filling all of the natural area.
This is also the time for my public service announcement to document your quilts. I did not do that so I can remember who the quilter was. Maggi, was it you?
I was lucky enough for this quilt to be featured in Quiltmania magazine 2012.
Thank you for reading along as I document my library of quilts and talk a step back into time!
Join me back here Monday for a fun blog hop featuring

The best giveaway for last

Several people have asked why I was giving these fabrics away
instead of selling them.  Others have been amazed that I can part with
years worth of fabrics.
So let me explain,
I have worked for Moda fabrics for over 16 years and another
12 years working and teaching quilting.
I am obsessed about the moda designers and the fabrics they create.
I love what special people they are.
I have a huge appetite and always think know I bite off more than
I can chew, or in other words make.
I do get an employee discount so selling my scraps
for profit, feels a bit like
some sort of Wall Street insider trading.
Since I am blessed to work for a company that produces
thousands of fabrics a year,
I just thought I would share my good fortune with you along with a
big thank you
for those of you with this final giveaway.
Did I have second thoughts about this one, heck yes!
French General’s classic red and whites takes my breath away.
(is that wrong that fabric can do that?)
Do I really really want to make this?
Yes, I have wanted to make it
since it came out in June 2011.
But I haven’t so time to wrap up the month long giveaway
what I consider to be the BEST giveaway.
Please leave a comment and I will announce the winner on Monday, Sept. 30th
No giveaway will be posted on Monday.

The winner of yesterday’s pinks is:

woad is a word

Woad is the legendary plant dye from England and was prized by Napoleon to dye his army uniforms. You do not have to have a uniform to get a chance to dye some treasures of your own. Join Kari Meng of French General and Denise Lambet from the south of France for a Woad Workshop in sunny California on April 9th.

If you can’t make the April 9th event you could always sign up for Susan Fuquay’s Chateau Getaway in 2012, but you would have to travel to France. ( I am not sure she has one scheduled for 2012 but there is always hope.) The 2011 trip is already sold out.

Our very own, Cheryl creating her woad creation.
Laundry never looked so good.
Did Napoleon do Tie Dye?

You may recognize some of the people (Hi Sandy Gervais!) in these pictures from a past Chateau Getaway. Pictures courtesy of French General.

HOWEVER, if you are interested in turning your whites pink instead of blue, my husband will be having a laundry exhibition next time I am out of town.

Giveaway

Giveaway?
Did that catch your eye?

I just recieved a copy of the new Holiday Issue of McCall’s quilting December 2009 issue. I was excited to see my quilt made the cover, AGAIN… folded and stacked with designers such as Chloe and Colleen from Toadusew, Sarah and Delores from Homestead Hearth and a dear friend, Gerri Robinson from Planted Seed Designs. And of course much more inside.
I do not know if you know of the MANQUILTER, but he is who quilted this quilt so I thought I would give him a shout out also. Isn’t that a great word, Manquilter? Of course you have to say it in a deep voice for the full effect.
Yes I said giveaway… keep reading.
The gals at McCall’s are so clever. They did a quilt option using the same pattern but did it in 30’s fabrics and used embroidered tea towels as the centers. Just that idea alone is worth running to the store to pick up your own copy. (pg 64)
Also there is an ad on page 49 from moda about something new available in stores late October. Clue- Fanfare Gift Wrap. Check it out.
Here’s the deal. Thanks for reading to the end.
The giveaway is for a magazine and my scraps from this collection. Scraps?! I have good scraps and after all it is a free giveaway. Rounneries will be in stores soon, so once you win my scraps you can order all kinds of yardage from your favorite shop.
I mean run to the stores this group is going to go fast!
Just make a nice comment and you will be entered. Drawing will be September 30th.
