I recently went on a retreat.
YEAH ME!

Took several projects to work on but did not FINISH anything.
BOO HISS!

Then I succumbed to peer pressure and started a little thimble quilt.
WHY NOT?
Everyone else was.

The problem with this was everyone one else was happy sewing a pack or

two together, adding borders and FINISHING something.

But NO,

I thought it would be fun to buy a new set of thimbles
each time I go to a show.

I could keep adding on to make a bigger quilt.

At this rate, how many packs do you think it would
take to make a
QUEEN SIZE
thimble quilt.

My love of hexagons continues.

Seems like odd colors right? A friend of mine sent a note with a cute graphic that inspired me.

The card was from Wit and Whistle. Isn’t it adorable?

I grabbed my accuquilt and proceeded to cut hexies.

The die has three different sizes, so I could play with various colors and sizes.

I sewed all of these together by machine. It was soo much fun.

Now, I am just trying to decide whether to keep it simple

or add some of the smaller

hexies as layers on top.

Oh the possibilities.

The final month of the Blogger Girls Quilt Along.

Border and Sashing

Can’t live without these rulers now.

When Monique first showed us this quilt I was intrigued by the setting.

There are a lot of sampler style quilts on the market but the setting on this quilt really sets it apart.

I decided to use 3 different fabrics is the sashing to create a secondary design.
What looked hard was quite easy.

I told you I am not very good at choosing a controlled amount of fabrics. I guess I get bored easily.
As I worked on this each month I added more fabrics. some good choices, some not so much.

Are You Ready For This!!!

The local news station was interviewing an 80-year-old lady because she had just gotten married for the fourth time.

The interviewer asked her questions about her life, about what it felt like to be marrying again at 80, and then about her new husband’s occupation.
“He’s a funeral director,” she answered.
“Interesting,” the newsman thought.

He then asked her if she wouldn’t mind telling him a little about her first three husbands and what they did for a living.
She paused for a few moments, needing time to reflect on all those years.

After a short time, a smile came to her face and she answered proudly, explaining that she had first married a banker when she was in her 20’s, then a circus ringmaster when in her 40’s, and a preacher when in her 60’s, and now – in her 80’s – a funeral director.

The interviewer looked at her, quite astonished, and asked why she had married four men with such diverse careers.
(wait for it)
She smiled and explained, “I married ~

one for the money,

two for the show,

three to get ready,

and four to go.”

(Sorry I couldnt resist!.)

I have a wonderful box of over 1000 half square triangles from my recent exchange.

NOW THE DECISION

What do I make with these? This whole triangle swap started because of Edyta Sitar’s book, Friendship Triangles and her yummy triangle papers.

Could it be possible that I am having commitment issues? I just can’t decide.

I even started a triangle board on Pinterest. More and More choices.

Yes, this has made my decision tougher.

Look at just some of the possibilities. Maybe a triangle sampler?

Of course, Edyta is not making it any easier for me.

She now has Laceys and Silhouettes that can be added.

This one is a stunner! Maybe?

What about a classic ocean waves?

I guess I will keep petting my triangles, sorting them into different stacks and then placing them neatly back in their box until I make the decision of what to make.

Does it count as an unfinished project if I haven’t actually started sewing the triangles together?

I Spy Hexagons

A while back I received a wonderful package from Quilt Jane. It contained this precious hexy flower with little cherubs and a hexy template. I asked Jane about the fabric and she said the fabric is
a print of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie. Two characters from children’s books
written by May Gibbs, a famous Australian author.

Note from Jane- The
attached photo is my book from childhood that I hope will be passed on through
the generations ( notice the Barbara Brackman William Morris backdrop
).
I decided to do an I SPY baby quilt for my first grand baby. No one is pregnant yet so i am taking my own sweet time collecting fabrics and adding pieces little by little.

The hexy section shown here is made from parts of the Funky Monkey line. the middle yellow monkey is me, the blue one is Gary. The hexies 1-5 represent each of the kids. My daughter-in-law is the green hexy wearing the pink dress with a strand of pearls.
(very top of pic) Her hexagon is connected to the number 1 since she is married to my oldest. My second son does give her a lot of grief so I thought it fitting to put her above #2 so she can keep an eye on him.

The templates are called “Holy Peepers.” Isn’t that a great name?

The templates are the brainchild of Kim and Dave Bradley. Kimpossible and QuiltJane both sell all sizes of these templates if you are interested..

I am sewing these together by machine so I used the inside
area to trace my sewing lines.

Once I get a few more pieces added I will be working in my treasure from Australia. Thank you Jane for getting me hooked on another hexagon project.

Today is my day on Kathy’s blog hop.

I love quilts that are repetitive graphic quilts that you have to take a second look at to see how they are constructed.

My favorite from the book has probably got to be Supponsibilites.
It is a great quilt but it is a wonderful story as well. (see book for story)

So many great books hitting the market and here comes another one. With a title like,
Fat Quarter Quickies
how can anyone resist. If you know Kathy or have ever visited
with her it is apparent she is from the south. Quilt names such as
Smorgasbord,
Brown-Eyed Girl,
Cutoffs,
Pixy Stix
and Tequila Sunrise
surely came

along with a bit of southern twang.
I can say this about her
because I am pretty southern myself,
so I know she won’t mind.
